Information: Phillip Acree of Frozen Camp passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 24, 2012. Phil was born in Van WV on June 16, 1938 to Earl and Margaret Acree. He proudly served our country in the United Sates Navy for 20 years, with three tours in Vietnam as an Aviation Ordnanceman aboard aircraft carriers. He retired from the Navy in 1974. After retirement, he returned to West Virginia and settled in Frozen Camp. Over the next 30 years he worked at Squires Plastics, Foote Mineral, and Ravenswood Aluminum. Phil retired to a life of leisure in 1999 to spend his time playing golf, watching the Red Sox, teaching at Jackson-Roane Vo-Tech Center, and helping his friends at every opportunity. Everyone that Phil met became a friend, and his friendship will be missed by many. Phil is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Barker Acree; sons, Phil Acree and wife Brenda of Ripley, Michael Acree and wife Pam of Zebulon NC, Eric Acree and wife Sylvia of Sierra Vista AZ; grandchildren, Erica Holt and husband Mike of Brighton MA, Mandy Pierce and husband Stuart of Little Rock AR, Kaitlan Acree of Raleigh NC, Hannah Acree of Tempe AZ, Matthew Acree of Lynchburg VA, Steven Acree of Shepherdstown WV, Sydney Acree of Tempe AZ, and Lindsey Acree of Ripley; brothers, James, David, and Gary of Pomeroy OH; great-grandchildren, Piper and Charlie Holt; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews; and innumerable friends. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Margaret Acree; his siblings, Ervin Acree, Leah Canterbury, Paula Dolin; and grandson, Jonathon. Visitation was held at Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley WV on February 26, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Sunday. Funeral services were held at Mill Creek Baptist Church in Frozen Camp WV on February 27, 2012. Friends called on the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military rites was in the Baptist Grove Cemetery, Frozen Camp.
