Information: (Everett Parker  - 1866-1941-  son of Nicholas L. & Margaret Koontz Casto married Allie Skeen (1867-1943), the daughter of Franklin & Phoebe Garrett Skeen, on 11 May 1888)     E. P. Casto, for many years one of Jackson county's most prominent school teachers, died at a Spencer hospital at six o'clock this (Thursday) morning after an illness of several years.  The body was brought to the Mays mortuary and funeral arrangements have not yet been made.  Mr. Casto was for many years the secretary of the Ripley district of the Board of Education and each summer conducted the Fairplain Normal School for teachers, a school which became widely known throughout the state as a school in which to prepare for teachers' examination.  Several years ago his health failed him and he retired from the teaching profession.  He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Allie Casto, of Ripley and the following children:  Mrs. Marjorie Munday of Liberty, Hazel Casto of Charleston, Marie Casto of Ripley and Jennings and Dewey Casto, both of Akron, Ohio.  [22 Aug 1941]      Funeral services for E. P. Casto, widely known school teacher of Jackson county, were held at Fairplain at ten o'clock Saturday morning with Rev. L. R. Mahoney, pastor of the Ripley United Brethren church in charge and burial was in the Fairplain cemetery.  Mr. Casto died at a Spencer hospital on Thursday after a long illness of several years.  His condition had been critical for several days and death was expected.  He was widely known in education circles and taught forty-nine terms of school in the elementary schools of the state, was secretary of the Ripley district board of education for many years, and for a number of years conducted summer terms of the Fairplain Normal school which was a training school for teachers who were planning to take the state teachers examination.  He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Allie Casto, of Ripley; and the following children, Mrs. Marjorie Munday of Liberty, Hazel Casto, of Charleston, Marie Casto of Ripley, Jennings Casto, Aubra Casto and Dewey Casto, of Akron, Ohio, and Bud Casto of Parkersburg. Two sisters, Mrs. Lester Skeen of Charleston and Mrs. Mattie Casto of Kentuck, also survive.  One daughter, Mrs. Connie Wood, preceded him in death.  (Friday, 29 August 1941)  [from the Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
