Obituary Date: 1934-04-05
Information: Columbia Alice Casto, daughter of John and Rachel Greene, was born September 1, 1868, and departed this life March 24, 1934; age 65 years, 6 months and 8 days. On December 22, 1885, she was united in marriage with T. D. Casto and to this union four sons were born. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and four sons--Melvin of Fairplain, Lionel and Donald of Given, Cleo at home, one foster daughter, Wilma Stover, at home; two sisters, Mrs. A. F. Pringle of Given and Mrs. D. N. Simmons of Kenna; seven grandchildren, and a host of friends and relatives. Her father, mother, and step-mother, Mrs. Mollie Greene, three brothers, Columbus, Floyd and Henry, and one half-brother, G. W. Greene, and three sisters, Sarah Tincher, Jenny Click, and Rosa Winter have preceded her to the great beyond. Loving hands cared for her throughout her illness, giving her every known aid, but it pleased God to take her home to be with the angels. She was converted in early childhood, uniting with the Baptist Church, where she retained her Church affiliation to the end. She spent her entire life in the Fairview community. She was a devoted mother, a kind neighbor and she will be sadly missed by those who knew her best. Mere words cannot adequately describe her life which was filled with good deeds well done. We can never forget the lesson of brotherly love, perseverance, and human kindness which she taught by her daily walks in life. The memory of that loving hand, that cheering word, that friendly welcome will still linger in our hearts when time has crowned our heads with silver threads. Time alone can heal the scar her passing leaves upon our hearts. But if we walk in her footsteps we know that we may, by the grace of God, some day join her with Jesus and the angels around God's bright throne. ""Dear mother now from us has gone Unto her long eternal home. Her smiling face we'll see no more Until we reach that shining shore. We weep today, Tears blind our eyes. But if we look beyond the skies--Sweet consolation! Praise God's name! We find our loss is Heaven's gain.""
