Obituary Date: 2011-11-08
Information: Catherine Z. (Shawhan) Nutter Casto, 79, of Sandyville, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2011. Catherine was delivered in birth by her grandmother on July 15, 1932 in Carbon WV. She grew up with her mother, Verona Udal Potter Shawhan, and her daddy, Burl Bedford Shawhan. Both preceded her in death. She married her high school sweetheart, Paul Clifford Nutter, at the age of 16 and was married for nearly 50 years before he passed away in 1997. Catherine found joy and strength from her three children, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, all of whom kept her laughing throughout her days on this earth. The family includes: daughter, LeaAnn Nutter Carmichael and her husband Larry Keith Carmichael of Ravenswood, and their daughters, Jana Carmichael Tabor (husband Stephen) and Kristy Carmichael Blower (husband Steve) and their grandchildren Rylin and Braylin Tabor and Dax Blower, daughter, Jozetta Lynn Nutter of Vito OH; son, John Thomas (Tommy) Nutter and his wife, Diana Strobbe-Nutter of Sandyville, and their children Meghan Nutter Easterly (husband Jason), Chelsie Nutter Painter (husband Jeremy), Jason Davis, Shawn Davis (wife Brie) and their grandchildren Adaline Easterly and Ava Davis. Catherine is preceded in death by her brother, John Bedford Shawhan and her second husband, Luther Cles Casto, who showed her that love can come at any time and at any age. Catherine taught her family the qualities of dignity, strength and love and knew that her children and grandchildren were never too old to kiss and hug or be given a gentle scolding. Catherine loved reading, shopping online, watching chick flicks and cooking enormous pots of meatballs. She will be missed tremendously by her friends and family who will always love her for the 16 year-old girl that they saw in her eyes. Services were Monday, November 7, 2011 at Casto Funeral Home, Ravenswood. Tommy Nutter officiated. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. West, Charleston WV 25312.
