Information: Archie A. Casto, 78, of Evans and Lloyd E. Stephens, 67, of Cottageville, died Wednesday afternoon when the pickup truck they were traveling in collided with a tractor-trailer on State Route 56 and State Route 4 near Mechanicsburg, Ohio. Mr. Casto was born in Evans, September 24, 1901, the son of the late James T. Casto and Minnie Reynolds Casto. As a teenager, he delivered oil well supplies in Jackson and Roane counties. In the early 1920's. using horses, dump wagons and scrapers, he was instrumental in building old U. S. Route 33 through Evans and constructing many of the Mill Creek bridges. He spent many years as a farmer. In the early 1940's he worked for Pinnell and Pfost, logging timber between Ripley and Spencer. During the 1940's and 50's he was a trucker, buying and selling horses and cattle. When the Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation was being constructed, he served as a foreman for various contractors. He also worked as a foreman for Harlow Lime and State Construction. He was a partner of the Casto Funeral Home with his son James, from 1953-56. Survivors include his wife, Laura Donohew Casto; sons, James W. or Evans, A. Eugene of Akron, Ohio, Harrison L. of West Memphis, Arkansas; brother, J. O. Casto of Evans; sisters, Permelia Cox of Middleport, Ohio, Marie Mose of E. Liverpool, Ohio, Freda Pringle of Dunbar, Geraldine Parsons and Virginia Sayre of Evans; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One brother, George, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:00 at the Casto Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Sayre and Rev. Raymond Skeen officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley.
