Information: Nora Jane Carney was born September 20, 1862, died October 1, 1923, age 61 years and 11 days.  She was united in marriage to Charley Carney, October 7, 1881.  To his union were born three children, two daughters and one son, Virgil Carney of Staats Mills and Chlora and Alice Carney, both of whom preceded her to the grave.  Besides Virgil, there remain to mourn her loss four brothers and two sisters:  Hart Staats of Sissonsville; Theodore Staats of Reedy; Cornelius Staats and Early Staats, of Ripley; Mrs. Clora Rardin of Beckley; Mrs. Rosa Rardin of Gallipolis, Ohio; and three half-sisters, Mrs. Nellie Shinn of Ripley; Miss Marie Staats, of Ripley; Mrs. Ruby Kessel, of Morgantown; and five grandchildren.  Sister Carney was converted in her childhood, joined the M. P. Church of which she remained a faithful member until death came and took her away.  The funeral was conducted by Rev. T. O. Powers at her home and she was laid to rest in the Fairplain cemetery to await the resurrection morn.   (from the Betty Kessel McIntyre collection)
