Information: Enoch C. Carney, the subject of this sketch, was born February 11th, 1855, departed this life January 26th, 1921, aged 65 years, 11 months and 15 days.  He was united in marriage to Josophine Winter March 23rd, 1879, and to this union eight children were born, Catherine Sargent, Jerusia B. Painter (deceased), William Carney, Alice J. Welling, George W. Carney, Ethel Painter, Emma Carney, Fredie Casto and Jesse Carney.  One child Jerusia B. Painter, having preceded him to the grave about nine years ago.  Besides his faithful wife and children, twenty-six grandchildren, three brothers, other relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn their loss.  About forty-two years ago, he moved to the farm on Jim Ridge on which he resided until death.  Many were the hardships that he had to surmount in this, then thickly wooded and sparsely settled community.  But with his faithful wife to assist him, they soon established a home.  The dream of their young lives has long since been realized, for an ideal home it has been all these years.  He lived to see all his children grown to manhood and womanhood and respected by the entire community.  His word was as good as his bond for an honest, industrious and well respected citizen.  He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, about fifteen years ago and lived a consistent christian until death.  One of the greatest joys of his life was to assist in the many activities of the local church.  He loved to have his ministers visit him in his home and very cheerfully gave of his store for their support.  Enemies, he had none, for he loved his neighbor as himself and could always be counted on to stand up for the right.  But now, alas! ""The silver cord is loosed and the golden bowl is broken""  How sadly we shall miss him.  But God knows best and we bow in humble submission to His divine and holy will. ""Servant of God, well done, Rest from thy loved employ, The battle fought. the victory won, Enter thy Master's joy."
