Information:      Willaim Fredrick ""Bill"" Carmichael, 73, of Ripley passed away August 2, 2006, at Eldercare of West Virignia.  Bill was a member of the Ripley First Presbyterian Church.  He was a navy veteran of the Korean War and  member of the American Legion.  Bill retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood after 30 years of service.  He was an active member of USWA Local 5668 and the first chaiman of the grievance committee.  Upon retirement from Kaiser, Bill was honored to be confirmed as Labor Commissioner for the State of West Virginia.  In this capacity, he utilized his talents to serve and advance the interests of all West Virginian citizens.  Bill was a dedicatd public servant to the people of his community and the entire state.  During his life Bill served seven terms in the West Virginia State Legislature.  He was a special assistant to Governor Underwood.  In addition, Bill served three terms as a member of the Ripley City Council.  Bill was honored as a Distinguished West Virginia in 1988.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  Bill was proceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Carmichael, and a brother, Robert Carmichael.   He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Carmichal of Ripley; two sons, Mitch (Teresa) Carmichael of Ripley and Chad (Kelly) Carmichael of Hurricane; two daughters, Shawna (Gary) Green of Lancaster, Ohio, and Brett (George) Hilbert of Ripley, seven grandchildren, Alison Green, Leslie Green, Nikki Carmichael, Ryan Carmichael, Amanda Carmichael, Tyler Hilbert, and Trenton Hilbert; and three sisters, Betty Gorrell of Ravenswood and Frankie Shocky and Elizabeth Curry, both of Ripley.  The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 5, at Epworth United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Krimmel and Rev. Bill McMorran officiating.  Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery, Sandyville.  Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church.  Vail Funeral Home, Ripley, will be serving the family.
