Information: Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with burial in the Ravenswood Cemetery for John R. Carmichael, 79, of Parkersburg. He was the founder and former owner of the Carmichael Monument Co. Carmichael died Saturday morning in St. Joseph's Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Jackson County, he was a son of the late Emmett and Gertrude Carmichael. In 1925 he founded the Carmichael Monument Co. in Ravenswood and in 1937 brought the company to Parkersburg. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of American Legion Post No. 15, the Forty and Eight, Ashton Masonic Lodge of Ravenswood and BPO Elks No. 198. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Parkersburg. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ethel L. Noland Carmichael; one daughter, Mrs. Frances C. Thorn of Vienna; three granddaughters, Mrs. Canda Lee Noland of Parkersburg, Tara Anne Thorn and Kimberly Kay Carmichael, both of Parkersburg; one great-granddaughter, Veronica C. Wallace; one half-brother, Cecil Bostic of Dunbar; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Mildred Holstein, Dunbar and Mrs. Juanita Duckworth, Hollywood, Fla.
