Information: Funeral services for John Wesley Carder, aged Sandyville resident, were held from the Methodist church there Monday afternoon with Rev. S. D. Harvey and Rev. I. Hinzman in charge and the body was taken to nearby Independence cemetery for burial. He had been ill for the past three weeks and for several days prior to his death his condition was reported as critical. Mr. Carder was born at Hereford on October 24, 1856, a son of John S. and Huldah Carder. His death occured last Saturday afternoon about 4 o'clock. He was married to Amanda Hiles on December 5, 1878, and she survives him, in addition to other near relatives, a niece, Mrs. Stella Beaty, of Sandyville, a nephew, Rev. O. H. Carder, of Point Pleasant; one sister, Mrs. Ella Phillips, of Seaman, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was converted at the age of 25 and joined the Methodist Protestant church at Hereford. Later he helped build a United Brethren church on his farm in the Joe's Run community and moved his membership there and remained a member of that church until the time of his death. He moved from his farm into Sandyville several years ago. Mr. Carder was one of the county's highly esteemed citizens and was always ready to extend every aid and assistance to a worth while community project and despite his years he still was interested in the things around him. He will be missed not only by the members of his family but by those who have known him through the years as a neighbor, counselor and friend. [from the Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
