Information: Howard DeWayne Burgess, 67, of Silverton, Jackson County WV, departed this life on June 13, 2002, after a brief illness, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 27, 1935, in Sandyville, a son of the late Romie and Florence Ann Pickens Burgess. He was a U.S. Army veteran and briefly operated the Texaco service station in Ravenswood. He retired with 47 years of service in the pipeline construction industry, having worked for Pace Pipeline of Delmont PA from 1959 until 1999. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 66 of Monroeville PA. He was a Methodist by faith. Survivors include his devoted wife of 37 years, Lola Barnhart Burgess; son, William (Jenny Beth) Burgess of Ravenswood; daughters, Twila (David) Harris of St. Albans, Carol Burgess (Kenny Jones) of Sandyville; brothers, Charles Burgess of of Delmont Pa, Cecil Burgess of Cottageville; sisters, Pauline Hundley of St. Albans, Doris More of Ripley, Elizabeth Milhoan of Liverpool and Josephine Smith of Barberton OH; grandchildren, Katie, Logan and Heath Burgess, and DeWayne Curtis Harris; his beloved pet, Cricket; countless friends and extended family. He was loved by all who knew him and touched the life of everyone he met. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, at Casto Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with the Rev. Larry Buckland officiating. Burial followed in the Independence Cemetery, Sandyville.
