Information: OTIE BURDETTE IS KILLED IN WRECK SAT. - Ottie Burdette, one of the leading dairy farmers of the county, was killed in a truck accident about ten o'clock Saturday morning. The sad tragedy happened on the main fork of Poca near Route 21. The truck rolled over a very steep embankment for about 30 feet and landed upside down. Mr. Burdette was caught between sacks of dairy feed and the top of the truck, crushing his skull. Death was almost instantly. Pinky Berry, a young man riding with him, was not hurt. Berry got out of the truck and notified the neighbors. The body was taken to the Long Mortuary and later was brought to Ripley where it was prepared for burial. Mr. Burdette was driving down the main Poca road toward Route 21 when, about fifty feet from the bridge across Middle Fork, he lost control of the truck due to the slippery roads and swerved over the steep embankment. The road was a black top road and it had been raining, making the road very slippery. Funeral services were held Sunday at the home and burial was made in the cemetery. The Mays Mortuary had charge of the body.
