Information: Dr. Marshall Buckalew, 89, of Charleston, died Sunday, February 24, 2002, at CAMC Memorial Division.  He was a friend, counselor, educator and lawyer for many years.  He was a retired West Virginia educator from 1938-1975, served as President of Morris Harvey College from 1964-1975, was a trust officer and President of First National Bank in South Charleston, and was president and editor of the West Virginia Historic Education Foundation in Charleston, beginning in 1982.  Dr. Buckalew was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Charleston, where he taught the Trinity Sunday School Class.  He received his AB degree from Morris Harvey College and his MA degree from West Virginia University.  He graduated Harvard Law School in 1948 with a J. D. and received an honorary LLD from Findlay College in 1959.  He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.      He is survived by his wife, Mary Hover Buckalew; three children, Ronald William Buckalew of Charleston, James Leonard Buckalew of Charleston, and Marsha Jean Driscoll of Bemidji, Minn.; one sister, Inez Bailey, of Goldtown; two brothers, Harry F. Buckalew of Goldtown and Jack Buckalew of Charleston; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Sarah, Megan and Laura Buckalew and Shannon, Kathleen and Erin Driscoll.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Floyd Wesley and Dorothy Sayre Buckalew; several brothers and sisters.  A memorial service will be held today (Wednesday, February 27) at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Charleston with Dr. Dean Thompson and Dr. Douglas Heidt officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marshall and Mary Buckalew Charitable Fund, c/o the Kanawha Valley Foundation, the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston, or a charity of your choice.  Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home in Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
