Information: Lewis Hoyt Brownell died at his home in Kanauga, Ohio, Oct. 2nd, at the age of 87 years and 10 months. He was ill only a week. He was born Dec. 2, 1865 in Jackson county, W. Va., the son of George and Susan Hoyt Brownell. He is the last survivor of his family of six children. For 25 years, Mr. Brownell was a mail carrier from Millwood, Jackson county, W. Va., known and loved by many. After his retirement he moved to Kanauga, Ohio, where in 1926, Mrs. Brownell was called to her eternal home. He was united in marriage to Dora Barnett of Point Pleasant, W. Va. in 1893 and to this union were born three children: Walter of Xenia, Ohio, Harry of Kanauga, and Mrs. Raymond Carrier of Hendersonville, N.C. In addition to the three children who survive him, he has 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a niece who was devoted to him, Mrs. Phyllis Brownell Drum of Marietta, O., and a nephew Harold Brownell, who lives in the old Brownell homestead at Ripley Landing, W. Va. He was a member of the Fairhaven Methodist Church at Kanauga. Funeral services were held on Oct. 5th at Letart Falls, Ohio, with Rev. David Sayre, a nephew, of Point Pleasant officiating. Burial was in the Letart Falls cemetery in charge of the Miller Funeral Home.
