Information: Robert Lee Brotherton, 95, of Given, WV, passed away November 8, 2012, in Eldercare of Ripley, following a brief illness.  He was born February 19, 1917, a son of the late Clinton and Hattie (Rhodes) Brotherton.  His first wife, Betty (Hunter) Brotherton, daughter, Barbara Hayes, sister, Pauline Brotherton, and brothers, Wilmer Brotherton and Tommy Wayne Brotherton, also preceded him in death.  Robert was a World War II, United States Army veteran, who had served in the European Theater, and was awarded a Purple Heart.  He was a lifelong farmer, and had received many state and national farming awards.  He was a retired construction worker, and was a member of Building and Trades Union, Local #1085, Parkersburg.  He was a member of the West Virginia Farm Bureau, and member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Given.      Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Inez Murl (Barr) Parsons Brotherton; son, Keith (Judy) Brotherton of Leroy, step-children, Dean (Kim) Parsons of Flemington, WV, Woodrow Parsons of Ravenswood, Rowena (Porkey) Mullins of Ripley, Gatha (Ken) Turner of Elkview, and Flora (Donnie) Hileman of Sandyville; brother, Gratton Brotherton of Coral Springs, FL; grandchildren, Amelia Hayes, Clark Hayes, Christopher Parsons, Matthew Parsons, Leora Turner, Shelly Cosman, Erin Mullins Frashier, Ryan Mullins, Austin Hileman, Alexis Hileman, Joshua Parsons and Alicia Parsons, and nine great grandchildren.  Service was 2 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans, WV, with John Gunther and Pastor Herman Robinson officiating.  Burial followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Given, with military honors by American Legion Post #107, Ripley.  Visitation was from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.  Condolences may be sent by visiting castofuneralhome.com/obituaries.
