  <p>Information: Samuel J. Whitman, 65, of Ripley, was dead on arrival Wednesday at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley.  He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and was a past master of the Masonic Lodge.  Whitman was a past president and a member of the board of directors of the RKE.  He was a member of the Retired State Police Assn. and was a former Ripley city councilman and retired state policeman.  Surviving: wife, Mary; son, W. J. "Buck" Whitman; daughter, Mrs. Donald Riley of Gainesville, Fla.; brothers, Kirk of Frametown, Sterling of Pensacola, Fla., Jerald of Mobile, Ala.; sister, Mrs. Leslie Bobbett of Cowen; four grandchildren.  Services were held yesterday in Epworth United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Holbert officiating. Burial was in Fairplain Cemetery with Masonic rites.</p>
