Information: BROOKS RITES AT OTTERBEIN - O. A. Brooks, Secretary of the State Council of the O.U.A.M. and a prominent resident of Ripley where he operated an insurance agency, died Tuesday after a four months illness. A second stroke, or a cerebral hemorrhage resulted in his death.  He suffered a stroke four months ago which left him in a helpless condition and he gradually became worse.  He was 72 years, 8 months and 4 days of age at the time of his death.  The funeral service was held at the Otterbein church at Evans on Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Charles Teets officiating and the burial was in the church cemetery.  The Casto mortuary was in charge.   Mr. Brooks was born near Evans on May 28, 1881, son of S. J. and Mary Potts Brooks.  He lived in that community until a few years ago when he became a resident of Ripley, where he engaged in real estate and in the insurance business and was quite successful.  He was a member of the O.U.A.M., a member of the A.F.&A.M. and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Evangelical United Brethren church.  On August 22, 1903, he married Geneva Kessel, who died on January 12, 1941.  On December 7, 1943, he married Myrtle Long, who survives as do the following children of the first marriage, Gay and Alton Brooks, both of Columbus, Ohio and Mrs. Edna Miles and Mrs. Virginia Carney, both of Vienna, W. Va.  One sister, Mrs. Odolet Sayre of Pt. Pleasant, also survives.
