Information: DR. GORDON, 96, DIES IN SPENCER - Dr. A. P. Gordon, 96, of Spencer, died Saturday in Gordon Memorial Hospital in Spencer. Dr. Gordon was a graduate of University of Maryland Medical School, class of 1914. He served as a first lieutenant in the medical corps during World War I. Going to Spencer in 1918, he opened the City Hospital, which was rebuilt in 1950 as Gordon Memorial Hospital, which he named for his mother, Rebecca Gordon. Dr. Gordon was a member of the IOOF, the Masons, and a charter member of the Spencer Rotary Club. He was a member of the Roane County Selective Service Board for 20 years. He served on the Roane County Court and in the State House of Delegates during the 1930's. Surviving: daughters, Mrs. Virginia Douglas and Miss Hazeldean Gordon, both of Spencer. Service will be 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) in Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. William Houck and Judge George M. Scott officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Cemetery.
