Information: LISBON, OH - Dr. David Lloyd Mandry, 90, passed away Monday, November 19, 2007, at the Vista Center. He was born April 25, 1917, in Martins Ferry, OH, a son of the late David and Maggie Jones Mandry. He earned his BA degree from Dennison University in Granville, OH. In 1941, he was commissioned in the Chemical Corps after graduating from Officers' Candidate School in Edgewood Arsenal, MD. He transferred to the Ordinance Corps in the U.S. Army Air Corps and in April 1946 was honorably discharged from the 33rd Bomb Group in Okinawa. He then went on to attend Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA and graduated as an M. D. in 1950. Following years of family practice and as chief medical officer for Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, he retired in 1993. In November 1987, he married Joan Owen of Lisbon and made his home in Lisbon after retirement. His interest and talents were many. He learned to play the harp at age 70, and he also enjoyed painting. He was president of the WNGGA International Festival of Wales from 1979 to 1981 and had taken an active role in Ohio Welsh Societies. He was a founding member of the Advisory Council (USA) of National Welsh-American Foundation. He was very proud that in his eighties he was elected to the Women's Welsh Clubs of America Board for the Welsh Home in Rocky River, Ohio and was the first male officer in its history. He was Vice- President and chaired the Scholarship Fund Committee which gives monetary aid to deserving students of Welsh descent. For many years he was director of music and organist at Calvary Baptist Church in Ravenswood. After moving to Lisbon, he joined the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church and enjoyed many years of singing in the choir. Survivors include his wife, the former Joan Evans Owen, and his family by marriage, Dr. Roderic L. and Linda Owen of Staunton, VA and their three sons, Bryn, Evan and Daniel and Marian Owen Bienick of Martinsburg and her sons, John and Paul; sister-in-law, Barbara Mandry of Westlake; nieces Dr. Patricia Treharne and Michael Sims of Phoenix, AZ and Judith Sandford and Dr. John Sandford of Worthington, OH and their two sons, Adam and Ania Garratt and John and Jill Garratt; a nephew, Dr. John Treharne and Bridget Treharne of Winter Park, FL and their son, Dan Treharne and daughter, Kathryn Treharne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Mandry; sister, Ann Treharne and brother-on-law, Jack Treharne. Services will be held Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mark Wilds officiating. Burial will follow in Lisbon Cemetery. Friends may call tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Weber Funeral Home Lisbon.
