Obituary Date: 2008-05-24

Information: Doris Wayne Workman, 74, of Ravenswood, went home to be with the Lord on May 24, 2008, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital while surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born August 25, 1933, in Lower Rock Clamp, Braxton County, a daughter of the late James French and Roena Ethel Rogers Wayne.  Two infant children: brothers, Bobbie Brooks Wayne, Charles Wesley Wayne, and Dennis Austin; and one sister, Bernice Evelyn McGuire also preceded her in death.  She was a homemaker and member of Kaiser-Douglas Church of Christ, Ravenswood.  She was raised in Kanawha, Webster, and Jackson counties.  She lived most of her life in Romney, where she was a teacher and the orientation and mobility instructor for the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind.  In recent years, her and her family moved to Ravenswood.  Doris enjoyed being “home” in Jackson County, living close to her siblings for the first time in decades.  Doris was a strong and generous Christian woman.  She was witty and active, and always enjoyed being with relatives and other friends.  She worked hard all her life, putting the needs of others ahead of her own.  While her parents were living, she cherished her visits back to the farm.  She was there when loved ones needed her.  She will be greatly missed.  Doris married the love of her life, Tom Workman, in Romney on August 24, 1974, and their love has never wavered.  Doris was devoted to her husband and their son, Michael D. “Mike” Fox of Ravenswood.  The three of them have been a model of family devotion, admired by all who know them.  Other survivors include her sister, Leo Ellen Wedge; a brother, Robert Gale Wayne, both of Leon; and 18 nieces and nephews.  Graveside service at Creston Cemetery, Evans.
