Information: Charles B. Braniff, 81, of Vienna WV, passed away suddenly at his home Wednesday afternoon. He was born July 6, 1931 at Hastings in Wetzel County, son of the late Samuel Porter Braniff and Anna Laura King Braniff. He was a graduate of Gilmore High School at Sandyville and retired from Kaiser Aluminum of Belpre OH. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army where he saw frontline action during the Korean Conflict as a medic with the 179th Infantry Regiment. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and a Purple Heart. In civilian life he was an avid hunter and fisherman and an avid outdoors man. Surviving: his wife of many years, Patricia J. Dailey Braniff; daughters, Eva Westfall (Eddie) and Althea Hess (Rob); brothers, James Braniff (Linda) and Gary Braniff (Sue); sisters, Carolyn Thornton, Norma Jean Curtin, Pauline Syruus (Sam) and Nevada Sue Burnem; brother-in-law, Ed DePue; grandchildren, April Balis (Pat Miller), Crystal Thomas, Juanita Anderson (Rickie), Paul E. Balis, Donald Riggs, Dustin Hess and Benjamin Hess; great-grandchildren, Austin Balis, Kyle Miller and Jalee Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Debra Balis and Vaness Staats; his first wife, Mary Braniff; sisters, Marie Depue and Mary E. Branniff; and brothers, Sam Braniff, Jr., Thomas Edwin Braniff, Larry Dale Braniff, and Paul Dean Braniff. Funeral services were set for Monday, October 8, at 1 pm at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Pastor Pam Ritchie officiated the service. Interment was at Independence Cemetery, Sandyville, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 103, Ripley.
