Information: Funeral services were held Dec. 8 in the Albert Brown Mortuary, 3476 Piedmont Ave., Oakland, Calif., for Mrs. Pearle Wood Brandt, sister of Mrs. Paul Starkey of Ravenswood.  Mrs. Brandt, 73, an Eastbay music teacher for many years was born in Tyler County and came to Ravenswood with her parents, Prof. and Mrs. Warren Wood.  The Wood family made their home at Virginia and Walnut Sts., in what is now the Sayre property.  Prof. Wood started the Ohio Valley Business College, which at that time was located over Brown's Rexall Store.  He taught there and had several teachers under him.  When Mr. Wood became ill and could not go to the college, pupils came to his home for their instructions.  From this home they purchased the old Park farm where Robert K. Park now owns and resides and later lived on Wood St. in the home later purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gorrell.  Mrs. Brandt was a graduate of the Cincinnati College of Music and she and her brother, the late Ross Wood, gave several piano concerts in cities in the Ohio Valley before moving to Eureka in 1913.  She headed the music department at Eureka High School where she taught piano and voice.  Following her marriage to Ivan R. Brandt, she moved to Oakland in 1918.  She opened her first music studio there in 1923 and remained active as a piano and voice teacher until her retirement in 1953.  She gave several Bay Area radio performances during that time.  She and her husband lived at 872 Northvale Road, Oakland.  She was a member of the Alameda County Music Teachers Association, the Senza Ritmo Music Association and the Athene Sorority.  In addition to her husband, a retired insurance claims executive and her sister, Mrs. Paul Starkey, she is survived by another sister, Mrs. Lenore Marsh of Ohio; a brother, Warren Wood, Jr., of Los Altos; a son, Ivan Robert and three grandchildren.
