Information: CHILD DROWNS, RAVENSWOOD - THREE YEAR OLD BOY FALLS INTO CISTERN AND DROWNS - Falling into an open cistern while playing alone in the yard of a Ravenswood home, Billie Dale Winters, 3-year-old North Ravenswood child met death by drowning near 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The victim was a son of Owen and Pearl Carmichael Winters of North Ravenswood. Mrs. Winters was visiting in the Lewis home on Railroad street, Ravenswood. The little boy was said to have gone out into the yard to play. A few minutes after he had gone out of the house he was missed by his mother, and the first inkling of the tragedy was when his cap was found near the cistern. An alarm was sent out and nearby residents hastened to the scene. A long ladder was placed in the cistern and Don Byers, who lived nearby, descended into the water and brought the tot out. For more than thirty minutes, Byers and others versed in first-aid methods, tried in vain to restore life through artificial respiration. The body was taken to the Palmer funeral home in Ravenswood. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Independence church with Rev. J. M. Fox officiating. Burial was in the cemetery there. Besides his parents the victim is survived by a brother and sister.
