Information: Maycel Whiting, 85, of Spencer, died Saturday in Roane General Hospital after an extended illness.  She was born in Jackson County, a daughter of the late John Henry and Nancy Booth Whiting.  She was a retired schoolteacher, having taught in Roane County schools for 40 years.  She graduated from Spencer High School, Glenville State College, and Duke University.  She was a past grand matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Spencer.  She was a member of the Faith Chapel Church and Hope Circle of the church.  She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and a life member of the 4-H Club organization.  She is survived by one sister, Ruby Morford of Spencer; two nephews, the Rev. William Morford and John N. Morford; two nieces, Patricia Orendorf and Nancy Buttimer; four great-nephews and six great-nieces.  Services were Tuesday at the Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Carl Dodrill and the Rev. William Morford officiating.  Burial was in the Spencer Memorial Cemetery.
